Is there a persistent problem in your life you need help to solve? Are you trying to figure out the best way for your employees to work together or to build your own strengths? Do you feel your life needs to be re-balanced? The 19th annual Iowa Metaphysical Fair, more commonly known as the psychic fair, is a place you might want to visit. It is being held in the 4-H building at the state fairgrounds from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, June 7-8, 2008. Admission is $7.00.
The fair is “an opportunity for people to get acquainted with some of the different options” available at the metaphysical level, according to Judy Zajec. She added, you can also “shop for pretty jewelry.” Zajec has been a member of the board of the non-profit that puts on the fair for about four years. While she has done tarot card readings in the past, she now is working on creating her own tarot decks. A new deck featuring the original Klingons of Star Trek fame will be available online at locally-owned The Tarot Garden. Zajec is also a member of the Des Moines Science Fiction Society (DMSFS).
You can buy your own tarot cards at the fair or have a reading done for you. There are also people who can read palms and stones if you have not had luck with cards. These are only some of the tools and talents you can find at the fair. Since popular readers are kept busy, it is not always possible to talk with them to see if they might be the right person for you.
You can also learn about past life regression. Verne Eggleston has been offering this service for about 30 years and says it is similar in purpose to a tarot card reading. For the 3-hour session, you would prepare a series of questions for which you are seeking answers and then answer those questions while in a deep trance. There is also a 1-hour session that is useful if you want to know if the person you fell in love with at first sight was somebody you loved before or if somebody you know is somebody you met in the past. In the Des Moines area, Eggleston’s services can be arranged through Morning Light Bookstore (1251 73rd Street, Windsor Heights). He is also available for readings in Cedar Rapids (visit Spirits Journey for more information) and in Marshaltown (Sacred Intentions Center).
If the Myers Briggs personality tests live you feeling a bit too card-punched, Sarah Nelson is offering the Enneagram. This is a program that looks at your basic fears and desires. It is divided into nine parts and there are nine levels in each part. According to Nelson, enneagram not only tells you what your personality is but it also helps you to improve those areas in which you do not feel healthy.
If you are looking for something physical to take home with you, you can have your aura photographed. I know someone who had this done last year and he was impressed with the image.
There is also plenty of jewelry, some offering to help balance your chakra, other pieces offering nothing more than to make you smile. Tai Salisbury of Jkalika Designs in Minnesota said, “I like to think the pieces are happy doing what they’re doing.” She wraps stones using 14-karet gold fill, sterling silver, and copper. She buys her stones “from everywhere” and is just as likely to cut them herself as she is to buy them already finished. Her pendants tend to be flat and the stones richly colored. At The Divine Stone, Jaye Lainson of Des Moines, concentrates on how stones and beads go together to create bracelets and necklaces. Her method is to pick out the stone and then experiment. Her finished pieces tend to be individual or simple mixes of colors but that approach creates jewelry that is calming. She said, “I might take something apart three or four times before I get it right but it all seems to come together at the end.”
