Iowa Women’s Hall of Fame Inducting New Members Aug. 25

Induction into the Iowa Women’s Hall of Fame is one of the highest honors bestowed upon an Iowa woman by the State of Iowa. Soon, the Iowa Women’s Hall of Fame will induct four new members, and you are invited to attend, free of charge.

Saturday, Aug. 25
10:30 a.m.
State Historical Building (map)
600 E. Locust St.
Des Moines

The four inductees are

  • Ruth Gaines, an educator and artist from Des Moines
  • Ada Hayden (deceased), the first woman to receive a Ph.D. from Iowa State University
  • Emma Harvat, the first woman in the nation to be elected mayor of a city with more than 10,000 residents
  • Connie Wimer, owner of Business Publications Corp., publisher of the Des Moines Business Record and philanthropist

Following the induction ceremony, a reception will be held for attendees and family and friends of the award recipients from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

At 12:30 p.m., the Friends of the ICSW Fundraising Luncheon will take place at the Hotel Fort Des Moines, 1000 Walnut Street, Des Moines. The featured presenter will be Jane Cox portraying Carrie Chapman Catt. Register online.
