What will be going on around Des Moines tomorrow after we have had our political say? When the candidates have gone; when the entourage has gone; when the photographers have gone; when nobody calls anymore; and when our opinions seem so less valuable.

Are you at a loss?

Does this phrase sound familiar? “Mommy… what can I do?”

Do these answers sound familiar? “Clean up your room. Call one of your friends. Get back to work!”

Speaking of work, how about sneaking off to the 2008 Iowa Career Expo in Hy-Vee Hall. It’s Friday January 4th from 10 am to 3 pm. As of 3 pm on the 3rd there are 84 companies signed up. It’s free to everyone.

Are you looking for some recreation? seeing your friends and neighbors? You can go out and support your favorite CIML high school and their athletic teams - boys and girls basketball at all levels (9th grade JV and Varsity), wrestling, boys swimming, and would you believe CIML bowling? The CIML schedules are on-line!

The Fleur Cinema always has some interesting films, you can park pretty close, and you don’t have to take a road trip to get there.

Drake basketball is on a roll with the men off to their best start since 1968-69 and the women a favorite to win the conference. An added bonus is that the Knapp Center is a great place to watch basketball. You can buy your Drake tickets on-line. The Drake women play on Friday the 4th and Sunday the 6th and the Drake men on Wednesday the 9th and Saturday the 12th, every one of them at the Knapp Center. They like it if you make a lot of noise. With the women playing on Sunday afternoon the 6th you can take the little kids and let them play on the inflatable slides.

Are you looking for something active? We are lucky in Des Moines to have a wonderful network of recreation trails, and it’s going to be warm over the weekend. Have you checked out the possibilities lately? You can at Greater Des Moines Recreation Trails.

How about going up to the Ledges State Park near Boone? It’s about an hour’s drive from Des Moines, and it will provide a way to get really muddy.

The Brenton Skating Plaza has proven very popular even on the coldest of days.
