Opinion: Obama is the one

The must-see event for me this past weekend was the Obama rally with Oprah. I’ve wanted to see her in person for more than 15 years and I wasn’t disappointed. But I would have gone even if Oprah was not there, because I have been impressed with Barack Obama since I first heard him speak at the 2004 Democratic National Convention (video) (full text). And I’m equally - if not more - impressed with Michelle Obama.

All the reports from the rally are in - and there was a large section devoted to press - so I won’t rehash all the speeches.

I’ve been to a lot of rallies, as well as the Jefferson Jackson Dinner, to hear the various candidates talk. I’ve taken more phone calls and answered more polls than I can count from all the campaigns. And I’m ready to put the Obama bumper sticker on my car. It’s time to stand for what I believe in. I agree with Oprah - he is the one. And not just because she says so. But because I believe he can bring the people of America together. The face of the U.S. is changing - for the better.
