When is the Last Time You Flew a Kite?

by Sandy Renshaw on September 2, 2007

Yesterday, we had the opportunity for a spontaneous visit with the grandkids (almost 4 and 6 yrs). They had new kites and had never flown one before. We were somewhat successful in the back yard, but all the houses blocked the wind, so we headed to the neighborhood park where there was plenty of open ground.

It was great fun. The kids were really good! I don’t think it was easy for me to fly a kite at that age. There was plenty of wind to take the kites to the end of the string, and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. It’s been a perfect holiday weekend for outdoor events.

What a nice break from the world of technology. These were simple, inexpensive kites – and it reminded me that some of the best times in life don’t require a lot of expensive gadgets and toys.

Since my camera is in for repair I couldn’t take any photos, so I picked this cool picture by Roger Smith on Flickr to share.

Yes, kites are so under-rated and need to make a comeback. It’s a great activity for the family and cheap. Everyone just say “NO” to playstations and tv :)
